Monica Violet Joy's outstanding career in animation ranges from helping to develop enormous franchise animated films such as Blue Sky Studios’ Ice Age, Nimona, The Peanuts Movie, and Ferdinand to managing and working in development for leading animation powerhouse series such as Spongebob, Blues Clues, Wallykazam and Team Umizoomi, to becoming the Senior Producer and Production Executive in charge of the world dominating series, CoComelon - where she grew the youtube following to over 140 million subscribers which helped to sell the property for billions of dollars, to executive producing and writing a mega hit series on the youtube / tiktok, The Laughing Dragon to writing, creating and developing, consulting and devising original IP with major networks such as Netflix, Wildbrain, Dreamworks, Jesters Animation, Wind Sun and Sky, Penguin Random House, and more!
Even more important than her incredible career is her activism. She has served as a professional mentor to women and marginalized groups in her industry for the last 8 years, often independently, as well as partnering with Women in Animation to do so. She takes on hundreds of independent clients per year, focusing mainly on women to mentor, provide key knowledge, education about the industry, wage disparity, to support their creative endeavors, connect them with other studios and professionals to help them network and get into the industry, as well as has hired many of these marginalized creatives at her own studio, Monica Violet Joy Productions to help her develop her own independent IP. For her own collaborators, she hires exclusively women to help take the step to correct the animation industry’s imbalance for the last 100 years.
She has lectured at NYU, the University of East Anglia, Montclair State University, as well as has been featured in industry publications such as Shoutout Artizona and VoyageLA in recognition of her achievements.
