Evelyn Smith is a vibrant 11 year old who strives to be her best self in whatever she is
doing. Evelyn has been a part of the highland dance community since the age of 5 and
continues to work to achieve her goals within the sport. In February 2020, at the age of 9,
she danced in her first Championship in Edmonton, AB with the goal of being a
representative at the Canadian Championships. By March, 2020 that goal was sidelined by
the covid-19 pandemic. With amazing dance teachers, her love for dance and resilience she
continued to dance online in hopes to one day compete again. Competing resumed in the
fall of 2021 and in May 2022, Evelyn became the 2nd representative for Alberta 9 and under
12 category. She will compete in the ScotDance Canada Championship this July in Regina
When she is not dancing she can often be found at 5 Elements Martial Arts with her dad
and brother practising jiu-jitsu or being on the youth leadership team during summer camps.
Evelyn has been an excellent student throughout her elementary years. After an unsettling
grade 5 year, Evelyn went into grade 6 and advocated with the school's administration to
head up a Kindness Club to help create a welcoming and safe school environment. She is
headed into her junior high year ready to take on the challenges ahead.
