Perseverance, patience and understanding. Sometimes we think that things should be done a certain way, but, for example, in villages – their cultures, their way of life – what works for us may not work for them. So it’s about helping them help themselves. When things don’t go according to plan, you need to adapt and figure out ways to get things done. Sometimes logistics can be a problem. Something goes wrong and instead of, “This isn’t working out we’re just going to give up,” it’s, “How can we work around this and still get the impact and outcome that we initiated in the beginning?”

Never give up. If you want to make a change in the world, you can. Don’t underestimate yourself, that’s a big one. One person can make a difference.
