And there will be times that you hit speed bumps or roadblocks and you’ll feel like this is the end, there’s no more, this isn’t working, my ideas suck. But you have to keep going.

You cannot give up. I know it’s so cliché to say that – but clichés are the best because they’re true. For me, there were times that I was so scared I was just going to look like a complete ditz, that this would not work and I would be looked at as Airdrie’s clown. Thankfully it didn’t – but there will be times when you fail. And there will be times that you hit speed bumps or roadblocks and you’ll feel like this is the end, there’s no more, this isn’t working, my ideas suck. But you have to keep going. It’s going to completely impact your life if you just keep pursuing. It motivates you, it motivates others, and you impact so many people. I could go on for days and days about just not giving up.

Honestly, it’s unexplainable. We think that we’re going to have this realization and then everything’s going to be peaches and grapes or whatever that saying is and everything’s going to perfect because we had that realization and it was profound and now our lives are going to be completely changed. I had the same realization over and over and over again and I still messed up over and over and over again. It doesn’t completely fix it.

I had that one realization when I attempted to take my life, that, “Hey! This isn’t a great idea and I shouldn’t do it,” but then I continued to try over and over and over again. But I learned something new every single time. Part of that was because of the treatment and another part of that was my own conscious-self figuring out myself, and figuring out where I fit in in this world. A lot of the time I get asked if I regret trying to take my life. While I regret hurting the people around me and I regret hurting myself, this ultimately made me who I am. I would never ever want to harm myself ever again, but I learned so much in the process of therapy, of going into the hospital. It gave me such insight into the mental health world that I was trying to change. I know these hospital wards inside and out and I see the benefits of them, but I also see the hardships and lack of resources they face.

We think some things in our lives are the end of the world, these bad mistakes that we made. But I’m a huge believer in fate. Everything happens for a reason. I believe that every decision that you’ve made leads you to where you’re supposed to be. I have the opportunity to choose whatever I want for the rest of my life and that is the scariest decision I’ve ever been given. And I don’t think there’s a wrong answer. Whatever I decide to do, whether that’s predestined or not, I believe it will be for good.
