Farheen Akbar is an Electrical Engineer with 12+ years of experience in O&G facility design, energy audits, commissioning and retrofitting. She is an advocate and integral part of the energy transition, with the world moving towards a greater mix of energy supply to manage carbon emissions and climate change.
Her wide variety of expertise encompasses working with energy producers, EPC, manufacturing, and architectural firms. She is committed to delivering high-quality results while bringing a diverse set of skills to the table. Farheen is passionate about optimizing facility performance, conserving natural resources, and reducing operating costs by deploying energy-efficient design and system optimization.
Farheen is looking forward to making an effective change in the Oil and Gas industry by implementing Energy efficiency. She is the visionary and lead organizer behind promoting energy efficiency in O&G conference which has created a movement in the industry.
What really excites Farheen is new innovation geared towards efficient process and optimized design. Seeing a trend of artificial intelligence and machine learning language merged with automation and data analytics gives her hope that futuristic technology will be employed soon to rebuild AB economy. “We just need to embrace the chaos of discovery to find the right solutions. Along the way aligning right people with right job and right focus will get us loser exploring new options for the Energy industry.”

As a past co-chair of Women in Leadership (WIL), she led an executive committee consisting of 18 industry professionals with a versatile background. At WIL, she demonstrated success in profitably, driving growth in a non-profit institution through strong leadership, insightful strategic planning, and finding innovative ways to promote the Chapter. She has been successful also in welcoming the occasions to build a strong network. Previously she sat on the board of Association of Energy Engineers. Currently, she is involved with APEGA, CRIN, CECN advisory board and events committee.
Outside of work, she engages her leisure time in promoting youth leadership. She works with Toastmasters International to offer youth leadership program at the public library.
She is an advocate for women empowerment and is continuously involved in various community initiatives. She is a car enthusiast and love riding motorcycle, which tops her list of hobbies. She occasionally volunteers for united way campaign, brown bag, Calgary women’s shetler and Northstar race track.
This year, Farheen is representing Women’s Entrepreneurship Day as a Global Ambassador. It is worldwide movement that aims to empower women to become active participants in the economy.
