Cynthia Hamilton Urquhart - Retired RCMP, Speaker, Writer
A Woman of Inspiration is a woman who inspires others to be the best they can be. She leads by example in every aspect of her life.
Cynthia Hamilton Urquhart was a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer for more than 25 years. Over the span of her career, she and her family moved 9 times and lived in 5 different provinces. This mobility gave her the unique opportunity to police both rural and urban communities while gaining a deeper understanding of the diverse cultures spread across the country. She held numerous positions during her policing career including general duty investigator, court officer, recruiter, ATIP analyst and finally Instructor/Facilitator at the RCMP training academy where she retired in 2011. She received the RCMP 25 Year Long Service medal as well as the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal for outstanding service to her communities. Two years after her retirement she was diagnosed with PTSD and subsequently started an intensive treatment program at the Operational Stress Injury Clinic in Calgary, AB. Using writing as a therapeutic tool she created poetry about the tragedies haunting her from her years as a police officer.
