For decades, award-winning human rights lawyer, disability advocate/trainer, and professional speaker Lorin MacDonald has demonstrated her leadership, passion, and commitment to accessibility and inclusion in her volunteer and professional activities, all informed by her lived experience as a woman born with profound hearing loss. Recognized as one of Canada's top disability/accessibility voices, Lorin has made many aware of the COVID-19 challenges faced by Canadians living with disabilities. She took part in the creation of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Standards in both Customer Service and Health Care. The ground-breaking Butler-Henderson v. Pentagram Bar & Grill Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario decision released in 2020 confirmed that restaurants cannot discriminate against people with disabilities who need access to their restrooms. The recipient of numerous awards from her community, her university, the province, and the legal profession, Lorin was UWN’s 2020 Woman of Inspiration Diversity & Inclusiveness Award honouree.
