Articles 2020 Women of Inspiration Nominees – Featured in the Media!

We are leading by example to SupportHER.  We created a media buzz and massive ripple as 2020 Women of Inspiration Nominees were featured in Post Media newspapers (Calgary Herald, Vancouver Sun, Montreal Gazette, and National Post in Toronto). across Canada. What an incredible way to amplify the voice and recognize the achievements of women and men who lead by example to #SupportHER.

I was compelled to share with our Media Partners and the team at Post Media,  the impact our proud army of inspirational women we are making and effect on the bigger picture!  It is critical to put women’s initiatives at the core of  Diversity Initiatives and continue to elevate the voices of women locally, nationally, and globally. We are worth it!

Thank you to 2020 Women of Inspiration Nominee, Lindsay Jones share your experience so we may lean in a little further and Raise the Bar for women to be seen, heard, and valued!

“Thank you, for showcasing and elevating the profiles of so many women. These small opportunities for visibility go beyond the moment in the newspaper. I read recently that what you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals (Henry David Thoreau). A point that may not immediately resonate with some is that women have not always been taught to step into the spotlight. These opportunities mean that women are being seen.

When children come and see a page full of an army of women’s faces, worthy of being in the newspaper, representation occurs and transcends generations. We all look around to determine what is worthy of showcasing. Thank you for communicating to both the women shown and anyone who came across it, that women are worthy of showcasing. When we started this process a lot of us would never seek out opportunities in the spotlight… until we feel like the accomplishment is worthy. We put our heads down and do the work.

We too often think, why share something unless it’s an indisputable win? Not all the nominees will win. And that simply means this: there are many, many impressive women out there, a sea of faces of many impressive women – a bigger picture. And the biggest reward is in the sense of belonging that we feel like we have a seat at that table. I’ve learned, by going through this process, that more important than what you get by achieving your goals, is who you become by achieving them. We’ve become the kind of women who feel comfortable stepping into the spotlight.

First a picture in the newspaper, a filmed interview shown across the bank, a write-up of your views. Why wait to shine? And why wait to give women the opportunity to? Authors Liz Fosslien and Mollie West Duffy explain: “Diversity is having a seat at the table, inclusion is having a voice, and belonging is having that voice be heard”. Thank you for giving every nominee a chance to be seen and an opportunity to be heard and told that we belong in the sea of faces of those making an impact.” Lindsay Jones  | LatAm Investment Banking | Global Investment Banking | Scotia Capital Inc.
