Why I SupportHER:
Meet Rick Tiedemann, Senior Director of Business Development at Copeman Healthcare.
Rick has spent 35 years in the corporate milieu and has worked with a number of multinational firms. Through this journey he has developed clarity around the fact that many business owners and leaders tend to spend more time and energy looking after their companies and employees than they do themselves.
As one of the senior directors for Copeman Healthcare, Rick has the absolute privilege of spending time with business owners and leaders doing thought leadership as it relates to the making of corporate athletes. He also works with executive teams in the development of leadership wellbeing programs that form the core component of an organizations risk mitigation strategy.
His primary long-term goal is to get business leaders to understand that leadership health is a vital business requirement and not merely a perk or benefit. His long-term vision is to get the business world to understand this important shift in mindset and to become more intentional in terms of how they go about optimizing the health of their leaders.
Rick’s short-term goal is to help Alberta business leaders and owners get through this challenging economic environment through helping them to maximize their physical and psychological resilience.
As part of his commitment to developing a stronger leadership community, Rick has developed a relationship with Monica and Canadian Business Chicks. “When I talked to Monica, the WOI award program caught my attention. Women of Inspiration speaks to how these individuals have inspired others to be something through transferring their enthusiasm and passion.”
“If we’re going to change the way we do business and enhance our competitive landscape, it’s going to be as a result of women and men inspiring others to look into the future and see how we need to be doing things differently.”
“We see day in and day out the tremendous value of having these talented women doing unbelievable things for our staff and clients.”
WOI is in part about how we need to support individuals in being disruptive innovators. These WOI are doing great things and making a difference.
Rick believes it is in everyone’s best interest for men to collaborate with women in the workspace. Men and women often view problems from different perspectives. Having that diversity of perspective allows for better decision making, and makes us a stronger company.
Mentorship of future leaders, be they women or men is essential if we want these future leaders to have the necessary business acumen that will allow them to be successful.
“We accept each person’s unique gifts and talents that they bring into the workplace. It is vital that we ensure that the person is the right fit for the job vs trying to get them to fit in. If we get this pairing right, everyone has the opportunity to lead within their role. Foundational in all of this is that the mentor is genuinely interested in the mentee being successful. This means working with them, resourcing them accordingly and holding them accountable for necessary outcomes. Everyone has an equal chance to be successful given the right opportunity.”
