Give yourself permission to take action around your dream

First of all, your dreams are scarier to you than they are to anyone else on the planet. And yet, no one on this planet is better hardwired to pursue your dreams than you because no one will be more passionate or committed to them – they’re YOUR dreams. Therein lies the most wonderful and miraculous catch-22 that ever existed for humanity.

But until you take action around your dreams, you’re just dreaming.

So what I would say to people is, if you don’t know where to start or if you’re stuck, the first exercise you need to do is take on your inner dialogue. Spend the next 2 weeks every night in bed. Journal. When you think about stepping into the bigger game – stepping into your dreams, doing something that lights you up more – even if you don’t know what that is, see what comes up for you. What’s that inner dialogue saying to you? Maybe it’s telling you, “I don’t know what I’m doing here!” That might be a result of something you told yourself when you were 3 years old! You might have a repetitive inner dialogue of “I don’t know what to do here”. So journal that inner dialogue. BUT, don’t just journal where that hinders you, journal where that helps you. Your inner dialogue is neither good nor bad, it just is.

“I’m too small to play with the big kids” motivated me to make importance an important conversation at the age of 3. Go figure that I would become a global authority on the topic of influence and have a best-selling book in 7 countries called Mass Influence. “I’m too small to play with the big kids” is one of the biggest gifts I ever gave myself. It both hinders me and it helps me. And when you can start to see it for what it is, you can choose how you use your inner dialogue and you can fall in love with that little inner child who created that.

Another great way to overcome your negative self-talk is an exercise I like to call “Channeling Your Inner Elder”. When my inner dialogue starts playing and I start stopping myself from doing those things that I know are going to serve me or serve the world, I channel an older, wiser, sexier, more awesome version of myself. I think to myself, “What am I going to be like at the age of 65? I’m going to be this fabulous, slightly greyer haired dynamo!” I channel her and I think about what’s she going say, and I be her. Just like you have an inner child you can play into, you have an inner elder you can play into. And when you can integrate all of that together it’s a lot easier to lean into what you should be doing in life.
