Keynote: Frances Wright – Founder, Famous 5 | @Famous5Calgary
About Frances Wright
Frances Wright is very grateful that her parents brought her to Calgary from South Africa when she was six years old.
Calgary has been a great place to receive education (B.A., Psychology/Sociology, U of C but an Hons. B. Journalism at Carleton; Canadian Securities Course); start businesses (Wright Consultants; PORTS International; Pillow Parlor; and MOMpreneur®); and launch foundations (Famous 5 Foundation, Founder/CEO 1995-2004 and currently as Founder/CEO of the Canadian Centre for Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse – cc4ms, Founder/CEO, 2012- present).
Frances is the lucky recipient of honours such as an Integrity Award from Rotary, the Governor General’s ‘Persons’ Award, the Queen’s Jubilee medal, an Alberta Centennial Medal, a Distinguished Calgarian Award and an Honourary Degree from U of C.
As the happy and proud spouse of Richard Pootmans, former City Councillor for Ward 6, Frances is looking forward to many more years of repaying Canada for allowing her to be a citizen and singing, True patriot love, in ALL of US command!
About Famous 5
Prior to 1929, Canada’s constitution said that only “qualified persons”—meaning men only—could be appointed to the Senate. It was in that year that five courageous and idealistic Canadian women stepped onto the world stage to challenge these antiquated laws and conventions. By insisting that women be officially recognized as persons in the fullest legal sense of the word the “Famous Five”, as they became known, set a stirring example of leadership that altered all Commonwealth nations’ laws and, with it, the course of history.
Today, the Famous 5 Foundation works to ensure the legacy of the Famous Five is known and celebrated. In their spirit, Famous 5 also honours today’s female trailblazers and work to inspire and empower future generations of leaders.
Monica Kretschmer – Founder and CEO Canadian Business Chicks
“I wake every day knowing my ‘why’ and that I am living On Purpose. I feel truly blessed for all of life’s lessons, experiences, authentic connections and relationships with the extraordinary men and women.”
